When a lot of staff still worked in this building in the 1960s, romances also arose.
My best memory of the Neude
In 1960 I, Joop van Luijn, worked at the assembly department in the telephone exchanges on the Neude. That same year I met my current wife in the post office. Irene worked at the post office and I sat with the telephone service. The telephone exchange was on the first floor (locale1) and from the telephone exchange I looked through the windows at the post office. It was love at first sight. During the break we walked through the city from the Neude, closely watched by colleagues from the telephone exchange and the post office.
There is a saying that ‘what the Neude offers you, will not be anywhere else'. She was then 16 years old and I was 19. We got together thanks to the Neude post office.
