Hollandse Waterlinie, Fort Blauwkapel
Built in 1818-1821 around the village of Blauwe Kapel.
Around 1850 and modified between 1873 and 1883. To the city side is a bombproof guard house. Intended as a ‘reduit', that is to say it served as the last point of defense for the closure of the Utrecht-Hilversum road, the Gageldijk, the Voordorpsedijk and later the constructed railway lines. Also, it protects the nearby inundation locks. Around 1885 intended for an occupation of 365 men and 37 pieces of artillery.
Group shelters were built in and around the fort during the mobilizations of 1914-1918 and 1939-1940. At the beginning and end of the road through the fort are remnants of tank barriers from 1939.
