A circular walk starts here. The Beukenburgerpad takes you through the beautiful countryside of Groenekan by walking on the border between the Utrechtse Heuvelrug and the peat meadow area. Enjoy the battle landscape, historic estates, avenues and Fort Voordorp. This walking route was created under the guidance of Landscape Heritage Utrecht and in collaboration with various land owners, many volunteers, the municipalities of Utrecht and De Bilt and other parties from the region. Origin Groenekan
The ‘Klompenpad’ owes its name to the Beukenburg estate. The etching shows the beech avenue after which the estate is named. Another estate in Groenekan is the Voordaan estate. This estate comprised 88 hectares of land. However, due to financial difficulties, the former owner was forced to sell the estate in 44 lots in a public auction in 1924. All those lots were given new owners who gave them a new purpose. This resulted in a total transformation of the landscape around the mansion. Timber merchants bought the lots on Westlaan. The trees were cut down for wood sale, so that meadows were eventually created again. Lots in the vicinity of the mansion were sold as building land. This is how the very varied residential area of ​​Groenekan Noord was created, from which the village center of Groenekan has developed. In the residential area, some residents still have trees in their garden that were part of the former estate park.
