In 1990, a wing of the building partially tore off due to the weight of the cable packages that ran meters thick through the building, which is seen on the image on the left. With the current fiber optic technology, the transmission capacity of the left image has been more than replaced by that of the right image. This example illustrates well why KPN no longer needs large buildings with its current equipment.
